Dam Good Road Trip

That title is proof that you don't have to be a dad to tell Dad Jokes.

Last Sunday was family day at the Revelstoke BC Hydro dam. Revelstoke is a 2 hour drive from here, so we figured that the kids are old enough now, let's go see a big dam!

So huge! This is from half way up

Security is actually kind of tight there. We had to stop at the guard house and show my driver's license, plus they wrote down our license plate number.

Like I said, HUGE dam! Those tubes you see in the picture are big enough for a school bus to drive through. There are five of those, leading to generators. The whole thing was pretty fascinating for the grown ups. They had some pretty great things for the kids too:

This really cool and accurate map of the Columbia basin

A build-your-own dam station. The grown up children enjoyed this one too :)

Interactive electricity exhibits. This one was solar

Another one - static electricity. Jackson got to zap his parents with this one.

Paper animal puppets craft station (the family day is a fundraiser for the humane society)

This neat beaver dam reading nook. Check out Eva deciding to have a serious photo sesh.

So many poses

Like seriously, we didn't teach you this, where are you learning the model stuff from, lol

Face painting! Fire breathing dragon!

Eva got to be a kitty

We are going to have to go back to Revelstoke. We saw all sorts of cool stuff on the way there and back. Plus the McDonalds backs on to a park, if everyone is hungry and done. Speaking of parks, we stopped to play in Sicamous on the way up, so I will leave you with some pictures from that park. Until next time!

Kangaroo Farm

Did you know that there is a kangaroo Farm in Lake Country?? Because, of course there is. Nothing says Okanagan like marsupials, right?

This past weekend we went to this place for the second time (we went last year too), and it was awesome! We remembered our camera this time, so you get to see some of the cuteness!

They've expanded this year, so there is a new paddock with all sorts of animals to see and pet. This was our first stop.

Just petting a kangaroo, nbd

Shameless photo op :)

And another

This place is so well run, and the animals are completely unflappable. We got to get up close to all sorts of exotic and domestic beasts.

Parakeets

More parakeets

Baby emus

Sugar Gliders

Baby wallabies!!

They were soo cute and cuddly!!

Afterward, it was only about a 40 minute drive home, so it was a pretty great little excursion.

Testing . . .

Thanks to the recent guilt encouragement from members of extended family (*cough* Gord *cough), I've decided to have a go at getting the blog up again :)

Actually, I've been wanting to do it for a while now, but technical difficulties got in the way, so this post will be a test to see how things go. I'd they go well, I will post a bunch of pictures!

Now that summer is here, everyone feels like there is a second to breathe again. Not that I'm complaining! We've had a great year, for sure, but there is great satisfaction in having a moment to look around you and address things that have been piling up, while also taking the time to stop in between and watch the kids catch bugs, swing, pick raspberries, play in some water, all that good stuff.

So, since I've been so delinquent, here are a couple of pictures from the past couple of months :)

Jackson's teacher held a kindergarten graduation in late June, and oh my gosh, how cute it was! They sang a song about metamorphosis and did four dances. It was the cutest thing ever! My mic is a tad broken, so the sound probably won't work on this video, but still, very cute!
