Last Sunday was family day at the Revelstoke BC Hydro dam. Revelstoke is a 2 hour drive from here, so we figured that the kids are old enough now, let's go see a big dam!
So huge! This is from half way up
Security is actually kind of tight there. We had to stop at the guard house and show my driver's license, plus they wrote down our license plate number.
Like I said, HUGE dam! Those tubes you see in the picture are big enough for a school bus to drive through. There are five of those, leading to generators. The whole thing was pretty fascinating for the grown ups. They had some pretty great things for the kids too:
This really cool and accurate map of the Columbia basin
A build-your-own dam station. The grown up children enjoyed this one too :)
Interactive electricity exhibits. This one was solar
Another one - static electricity. Jackson got to zap his parents with this one.
Paper animal puppets craft station (the family day is a fundraiser for the humane society)
This neat beaver dam reading nook. Check out Eva deciding to have a serious photo sesh.
So many poses
Like seriously, we didn't teach you this, where are you learning the model stuff from, lol
Face painting! Fire breathing dragon!
Eva got to be a kitty
We are going to have to go back to Revelstoke. We saw all sorts of cool stuff on the way there and back. Plus the McDonalds backs on to a park, if everyone is hungry and done. Speaking of parks, we stopped to play in Sicamous on the way up, so I will leave you with some pictures from that park. Until next time!
